Patient Lodging

Dr. Blount sees mostly out-patients.  If your pet needs to be hospitalized, we will discuss whether it is better for your pet to be hospitalized with your referring veterinarian, at the Connolly Animal Clinic, or at a referral clinic that can provide 24-hour nursing care.

Lodging facilities for patients and boarders are climate controlled, for the comfort of your pets.  Walks outside, medications and feedings are provided as often as the patient needs.  We fully understand that good nursing care is crucial to healing.  We will do our very best to keep your pet warm, dry, clean and comfortable, and to minimize the stress of hospitalization as much as possible.  We know that little things done consistently to provide loving care can make a big difference.

Patients hospitalized at the Connolly Animal Clinic are cared for by veterinary techicians and animal care attendants from 7:30am to 5:30 pm.  In-patients are examined by Dr. Blount twice daily -- morning and evening.  If needed, a veterinary technifician or Dr. Blount will provide treatments late in the evening on weekdays, and at least twice daily (or more often if needed) on weekends and holidays.  If your pet needs round the clock nursing care, and referral to a small animal ICU is for some reason not possible, transportation of your pet to Dr. Blount's home for evening, weekend and Holiday care may be offered.  This is done only with the owner's permission.  Many medical problems can be managed successfully this way, when more complete (and more expensive) care is just not an option.  Provision of round-the-clock nursing care at a small animal ICU is always best.  But on the other hand, having a patient at Dr. Blount's home, where they can be easily checked on throughout the night, is often preferred to leaving a patient for night in an unattended clinic.
