We Strive for Excellence in Small Animal Care
We do our very best to provide the highest level of care that our practice will support, and are continually adding new equipment and services. We are proud of our facilities, but at the same time we are looking forward to adding even more equipment upgrades in the future, as new technology becomes available.
Here is a list of some of the notable features found in our facilities
- Critical Care Equipment: Oxygen Cage to provide life saving oxygenation for patients with heart and/or respiratory disease, anemia or trauma; Pulse Oximeter to measure oxygen levels in the body; EKG to measure the electrical activity of the heart; Whole Blood and Plasma if transfusions are needed; IV Fluid Pumps for precise administration of intravenous fluid therapy; Manometers to measure venous pressures to monitor fluid therapy in animals with heart or kidney diasease.
- Complete In-House Laboratory: we can have results in minutes for Complete Blood Counts; Serology for evaluation of kidneys, liver, pancreas, cholesterol, blood sugar, proteins, etc.; Electrolytes and Blood Gases; Clotting Times; Fructosamine for long term monitoring of diabetics; Complete Urinalysis; Cytology (examination of cells under the microscope); Blood typing if transfusions are needed; and Ethylene Glycol Test for antifreeze poisoning.
- Surgery Equipment: State of the Art Anesthesia including isoflurane gas anesthesia, several choices for safe intravenous induction, pre-emptive pain control (we don't wait for your pets to hurt before treating their surgical pain--we prevent them from hurting), and anesthetic monitoring (EKG, pulse oximeter, blood pressure, etc.); Orthopedic Equipment to repair bones, including external fixators, acrylics, Securos cruciate repair systems, etc.; Soft Tissue Surgery Equipment necessary to perform surgeries in the chest, abdomen, or other location.
- Medical Equipment: High Frequency X-Ray Machine and Automatic Processor, brand new technology to give us the best detail on x-rays, even on large pets; Ultrasound so that we can painlessly "look inside" your pet without doing surgery; ELD Device for placing feeding tubes when pets are recovering and temporarily unable to eat on their own; Colonoscope for examining the colon without doing surgery; Blood Pressure equipment so that we can test for high or low blood pressure and monitor treatment.
- Hospital Facilities: ICU cages with elevated floors that keep sick patients clean and dry, and special systems to keep IV lines from tangling; Isolation Ward where pets with contagious diseases are housed, so as not to expose other patients; Separate Hospital and Kennel Areas so that sick patients are housed separately from healthy pets, and are in a more peaceful environment; Separate Dog and Cat Waiting Areas because they don't always play well together.
- Provisions for Consultation with other Experts. We have a number of systems set up to get consultations (often within hours) with experts when we would like to have a second opinion on a pet we are caring for, including: Electronic Radiology Consultation - we can convert your pet's x-rays or ultrasound images to digital format, e-mail them to a board certified radiologist, and get an expert opinion by e-mail within hours; Veterinary Information Network (VIN) - we belong to an on-line network which can be accessed from any computer inthe clinic, where we can post details of your pet's case, and get an opinion for an international expert in the field, often within hours; and E-Mail Lab Results - we are set up to get results from many of the outside labs we send tests to, so that we get results as soon as possible, and we can search the on-line database of results 24/7, even when the lab is closed.
